Awesome article! It was quite tough for me to follow the syntax as I'm not familiar with the useEffect etc. and used mainly "extends React.Component" with props. Seems I need to follow the evolution of the frameworks more closely :-)

I'm not sure about the performance impact of having OL in react. Do you have any experience or insights? How does that DOM rendering of react behave in combination with the OpenLayers state? Is this sideffect thing enought to avoid re-rendering overhead?
